Wedding Day

 small wedding of 3000-5000

We made it to Wedding day! it was a beautiful wedding held at our home church St. John's of Secunderabad, India.  Secunderabad is the twin city to Hyderabad and we live just at the border in a neighborhood called Tarnaka.  St. John's is a Church of South India (CSI) church with an Anglican heritage.  My grandfather helped form the CSI church which is a conglomerate of the Anglican, Methodist, Congregationalist, and Presbyterian churches.  It was formed the same year as India's Independence from the British Raj (rule).  The CSI Church was formed to create a sense of unity among Christians as well as to portray the unity of one God and one people in a land of multiple gods and hundreds of cultures and languages.  Denominational differences were discussed and a book of common prayer and liturgy was written.

The wedding started at 5pm and was a short and sweet ceremony.  We decided to grab dinner together at a beautiful Chinese restaurant and then headed over to the large reception.  We all had severe colds.  My parents had the worst colds due to their intense involvement in all the related events and a busy season of getting prepped for us by finishing double the number of classes and house prep.  They teach theology to more than 900 through their seminary centers and run several development programs in rural as well as urban areas working with incredibly vulnerable populations.

We got to the wedding reception about halfway through at around 9pm.  C.Si went home with my parents to recover and relax.  The Imperial Gardens space, in which the reception was held, was beautiful; lined with marble statues and a huge dias where the bride, groom and their families waited to greet all the visitors and take photos with them.  There were hundreds of dishes from pizza to paya (a traditional spiced bone soup).  I, of course, stuck around the kulfi (Indian Ice Cream) area.

During the reception, Jake and I got to spend time meeting with family; hanging out with Prem & Rupa, and later after the crowds dissipated around midnight spent some time with the bride's family.  We got home to a happy and very playful Caroline.

We all went to bed hoping to get loads of rest after a lot of fun and family.  We slept soundly and woke up at noon.  Jake, Caroline, and I got over our colds that next day and my parents got over theirs in the following week.  Recovered, refreshed, relaxing.
